PROPOSAL
The property owner, Mr. John Imreibe, has proposed new exterior colors and awnings
for the commercial building located at 1691-1697 Weiland Road. The proposed exterior
changes include a new metal coping in a color similar to "Sierra Tan"; a painted accent
band in a color similar to "Sandstone"; and new awnings approximately twenty (20)
inches high in #4609 Orange color for the Dunkin Donuts awnings and #4620 Beige
color for the remainder of the building.
Mrs. Neukirch explained that Mr. Imreibe had requested the orange color awnings for
Dunkin Donuts and the beige color for the remainder of the building.
Mr. Sheehan believes that the proposed orange is too vivid a color and does not blend
with the overall appearance of the proposed building colors..
Mrs. Berman stated that she prefers the #4620 Beige. The building will have a lot of
signage and questioned the need for a different color awning for Dunkin Donuts.
The question was raised regarding Dunkin Donuts vacating the space and a new
tenant requesting a different color awning. Mrs. Neukirch stated that Dunkin Donuts
has signed a ten (10) year lease.
Mr. Sheehan stated that he driven past the Dunkin Donuts located in Arlington Heights
which has a different color awning, but that it is complementary to the adjacent awning.
He had never noticed the different color awnings on the building prior to this, so he is
not completely against two colors, but they should be complementary to each other and
the building itself. He believes that the purpose of the bright orange awnings are just to
get the attention of people on the road.
Com. Windecker stated that the proposed orange color is known in the industry as
"Cheap". He is not in favor of the proposed orange color awnings.
Mrs. Neukirch asked the ART members if there was an objection to the use of two (2)
different colors for the awnings. Mrs. Berman and Mr. Wallace would prefer the
uniformity of one (1) color. Mr. Sheehan stated that if the orange color was toned way
down he would not object to the use of two (2) colors. However, the two (2) colors
should compliment one another. The use of earth tones would be preferred. Com
Windecker believes that the awning should be only one (1) color. This is a small
building and the beige would match the rest of the building. Mrs. Neukirch stated that
her preference was the single color also.
There were no additional questions or comments from the ART members.
RECOMMENDATION
ART recommends approval of the proposed new exterior building colors and the
proposed awnings, subject to the following:
1. The proposed awnings shall be uniform in color being Beige #4620.
