This requires the excavation of the Water main and the installation of a stainless steel sleeve around the break This activity is considered emergency priority and shall be acted on immediately. HTH or equal (Chlorine) CREW SIZE - Four WORK METHOD Call JULIE for locates 1-800-892-0123 with site information Create request/make folder Call additional men to assist with work Notify homeowners that water will be turned off, if necessary/issue boil order Turn water off Place barricades and construction signs through the work zone Excavate as needed to get below main Pump out water/6 inches below pipe Place shoring box in hole Prepare water main for clamp Install clamp Turn water on and open hydrant closest to break to flush line (valve>break>hydrant) Check for leaks and backfill Using Hach kit sample water for chlorine residual (residual must be > O.ZmgA), and collect sample Make out work order to restore excavation Follow procedures for boil order if needed Clean all tools Backhoe Dump truck (if in hard surface) Utility truck Air compressor (if in pavement) Valve key 2" pump electric or gas Lighting Generator and extra gas can Hand tools & ladder 11 12. 13. t4. 15. Closing and opening the valve will loosen any build-up on the valve stem and gates. This procedure determines ifthe valve operates correctly and if there are any leak at the packing plate. Place safety cones and traffic control construction signage 2. Lift manhole cover off with manhole hook 3. Set cover to side, out of the way while exercising valve 4. Remove manhole cover 2. Pump water out of manhole (if needed) 3. Check air in manhole with a gas oxygen tester 4. Access valve vault and inspect vault 5. l.ower wrenches into manhole 6. Inspect valve (inspection includes bonnet bolts, packing bolts and top nut). Change to stainless steel ifthey are not already 7. Notify residents in the area that water will be turned off (if required) 8. Remove follower plate bolts 9. Remove follower plate 10. If follower plate is cracked replace with a new plate and bolts (if stem bent or broken or gate is bad) Note: valve should be in the middle before packing plates/bolts are tightened down. 1 1. This activity includes the inspection ofthe hydrant, operation, clean and lube ofthe port nozzle caps and stem. Every year pressures and flow checks will be completed on the system to updae hydrant flow information. Pressure checks will be done on every 25th hydrant. Each year move to the next hydrant in order. Flow checls annually. Use the sample site map of 50 zones. Residential area - one per zone. Commercial area - one per street. MATERIAL N/A CREW SIZE - One WORK METHOD 1. Start from Well House #7 and flush hydrants north to east, then south to complete the lake County area to Pumping Station #1. Continue from Pumping Station #1 and flush hydrants south to east until every hydrant has been opened and flushed. 2. Open 4 1/2 inch port 3. Hook up defuser hose to hydrant 4. Open hydrant all the way slowly 5. Flush until water is clear 6. Close hydrant slowly 7. When pitot pressures for flow are being recorded flow 4 ll2 inch port 8. Connect pitot defuser to 4 ll2 inch port. Then turn on hydrant all the way 9. Record gauge reading 10. Turn hydrant off slowly 11. Make sure hydrant drains 12. 13. Inspect hydrant for leaks When checking area pressures, use the port PSI gauge SAFETY PROCEDURES 1. Use directional arrow on truck 2.
