SYSTEMATIC SEQUENCE FOR
'PM ‘D’ INSPECTION
INCLUDES ALL ITEMS LISTED FOR PM ‘A’ ‘B’ AND ‘C’ GASOLINE AND DIESEL
1. Cylinder compression - test and record (after 80,000 miles or engine running problems)
2. Manifold - inspect for leaks, tighten nuts, with engine at normal operating
temperature.
3. Valves - run engine at proper idle, inspect overhead system and adjust valve
lash if required.
4. Replace valve cover gaskets, if required.
5. Preform cylinder leak down test, if compression indicates low compression.
DIESEL
1. With engine operating at proper temperature - tighten exhaust manifold and
exhaust pipe flange nuts. Tighten air inlet system hose clamps. Inspect for leaks.
2. Fuel return line - disconnect at tank or other convenient place. Run engine at RPM.
Observe fuel for appearance of air bubbles or gases.
3. High pressure lines, inspect, tighten or replace if required.
4. Fuel pump lines inspect, tighten if required.
5. Valves - inspect for proper clearance, if adjustable.
6. Injector nozzles - inspect and clean as required, set pop off pressure. Except electronic
systems
7. Injectors - check and adjust for proper height setting. Inspect overhead system and
adjust rack if ‘HP’ system.
8. No load high speed setting test and record RPM.
Test idle speed and setting and record RPM.
BRAKES/WHEELS
1. Inspect front brake, pads /linings, anchors, locks, wheel cylinders drums and/or
rotors. Lubricate shoe anchors and, clean and lubricate actuating components.
2. Clean, repack and adjust front wheel bearings for both wheels. Replace grease seals.
If equipped.
3. Inspect rear brake pads/linings, anchors, locks, wheel cylinders brake rotors or drums,
lubricate shoes, anchors and cams.
4. Rear wheel bearings - clean repack and adjust; replace grease seals.
5. Lubricate air brake valve clevis pin.
7. Inspect auto-slack adjusters.
TRANSMISSION
1. Adjust automatic transmission linkage if necessary.
2. Adjust transmission support and strut rod if necessary.
3. Replace automatic transmission filter and fluid in accordance with manufactures
recommendations.
4. Inspect lining condition and adjust driveline type parking brake.
5. Inspect auxiliary transmission or transfer case for leaks; see that breathers
are not restricted; tighten rear bearing retainer bolts.
6. Lubricate auxiliary transmission or transfer case linkage pivot points and u-joints.
7. Tighten if necessary, and lubricate center bearing, brackets, u-joints and flanges.
STEERING/SUSPENSION /AXLES
1. Tighten rear axle carrier housing and pinion cage bolts.
2. Tighten attachments to specification and lubricate rear bushings.
