Sharps Disposal ProgramSharps Disposal Program
The Village of Buffalo Grove Health Department along with the Solid waste Agency of Northern
Cook County (SWANCC) is extending the sharps disposal program. This program will allow
residents who self inject medications, the option of bringing their used sharps to the Village of
Buffalo Grove for proper disposal and help to prevent the sharps from entering the household
waste system. Used sharps left loose among other waste can hurt sanitation workers during
collection rounds, at sorting and recycling facilities, and at landfills. These materials also have
the potential to become lodged in equipment forcing a worker to remove it by hand and
possibly becoming injured.
The Buffalo Grove Health Department will be providing free sharps containers to residents
interested in participating in this program. These containers can be picked up at the Buffalo
Grove Health Department located in the Village Hall at 50 Raupp Blvd. Sharps users will then
be able to take their full sharps container to the Buffalo Grove Health Department for
appropriate disposal. You can drop off your containers at the Health Department at Village
Hall, 50 Raupp Blvd. Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 5 PM. Please call (847) 459-2530 if
you have any questions. Please note that all sharps must be in an approved sharps
container.
