RESOLUTION 95- 27
IN SUPPORT OF THE EXTENSION OF ILLINOIS RT. 53 FROM LAKE COOK RD.
TO STATE ROUTE 120
WHEREAS, the Village of Buffalo Grove has long supported and participated in regional arterial
highway planning in northeastern Illinois; and
WHEREAS$he Village has a steadfast tradition of supporting the extension of Illinois 53, specifically
articulating this position via resolution 85 -74, passed December 16, 1985 and resolution 88 -49, passed
September 6, 1988; and
WHEREASIhe safety, economic and air quality benefits of a well designed and strategically planned
roadway system will reduce congestion and injury to person and property; these benefits will, as well, enhance
the economic vitality and quality of life in central Lake County; and
WHEREAS#he multi year review process, principals and standards adopted by the Corridor Planning
Council of Central Lake County have afforded all communities and residents within the Illinois 53 Corridor
abundant and fair opportunities to shape the effects and development of the roadway; and
WHEREAS, in 1993, the State Legislature gave the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority the right and
directive to build the project;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES
OF THE VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE, COOK AND LAKE COUNTIES, that the Illinois State Toll
Highway Authority is encouraged to:
Work in earnest with the Illinois Department of Transportation to complete the design, study
and engineering of the project to extend Route 53 from its present terminus at Lake Cook Road
to Illinois Highway 120.
2. Make all efforts to reserve and acquire the right -of -way necessary.
3. Secure funding for the construction of this project.
4. Proceed with construction in a timely and expedient manner.
