1993-022ORDINANCE NO. 93-22 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 13.12.010 AND 15.12.040 OF THE BUFFALO GROVE MUNICIPAL CODE CONCERNING DOWNSPOUTS AND SUMP PUMP DISCHARGES WHEREAS, the Village of Buffalo Grove is a Home Rule Unit pursuant to the Illinois Constitution of 1970. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE, COOK AND LAKE COUNTIES, ILLINOIS, as follows: Section 1. Section 13.12.010 of the Village of Buffalo Grove Municipal Code is hereby repealed. Section 2. Section 15.12.040 of the Village of Buffalo Grove Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: Section 15.12.040 Downspouts and Sump Pump Discharges A. New connections and new construction. Except as set forth in subsection B herein, the following requirements for new connections and new construction shall apply: 1. Downspouts. All downspouts or roof drains shall discharge onto the ground or be connected to a storm sewer. No downspouts or roof drains shall be connected to the sanitary sewer. A downspout or roof drain shall be terminated no more than ten (10) feet from the building unless written approval is granted by the Village Engineer. 2. Footing Drains. Footing drains shall be connected to sump pumps and discharge shall be made into W 0 a storm sewer. No footing drains or drainage tile shall be connected to the sanitary sewer. 3. Floor Drains. Floor drains in basements shall be connected to a sump pump and discharged to the sanitary sewer. 4. Sump Pumps. a. Sump pumps installed to receive and discharge ground waters or other storm waters shall be connected to the storm sewer. Sump pumps installed to receive and discharge floor drain flow or other sanitary sewage shall be connected to the sanitary sewer. A sump pump shall be used for one function only, either the discharge of storm waters or the discharge of sanitary sewage. b. Sump pump discharges to the storm sewer system shall be a conduit of four inch minimum diameter P.V.C. pipe, at a minimum slope of one percent, and a minimum depth from finished grade to the top of pipe of eighteen inches. B. Existing Storm Water Sump Pump Discharges. The discharge piping from existing sump pumps installed to receive and discharge ground waters or other storm waters shall be terminated no more than ten (10) feet from the building unless written approval is granted by the Village Engineer. C. Unlawful Discharge. It shall be unlawful to cause or permit the discharge from any sump pump, downspout or roof drain to flow onto any public streets, sidewalks or parkways. Section 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval and publication. This ordinance may be published in pamphlet form. AYES: 6 - Marienthal. Reid.
