AN ORDINANCE AMENDING
CHAPTER 15.20, FENCES, OF THE
VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE MUNICIPAL CODE
WHEREAS, the Village of Buffalo Grove is a Home Rule Unit
pursuant to the Illinois Constitution of 1970.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF
TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE, COOK AND LAKE COUNTIES,
ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: There is hereby added to the Municipal Code of
the Village of Buffalo Grove section 15.20.055 which is to read
as follows:
15.20.055, Golf Course Lots. The following restrictions
apply to all lots abutting a golf course:
A. No fence is allowed in any rear yard that abuts a
golf course.
Exceptions:
1. A four (4) foot fence is allowed on the property
line if it is to be used in conjunction with a swimming
pool requiring such fencing. In such cases a permit
for the erection of a four foot fence will be issued
along with the swimming pool construction permit.
2. Patio and deck screens are permitted, provided
they are attached or adjacent to the patio or deck and
do not exceed 4' in height.
3. Fencing for dog runs is permitted, provided it
is attached and does not extend more than 10' from the
rear of the house, and does not exceed :4'..., i:n.. height.
Section 2: There is hereby added to the Municipal Code of
the Village of Buffalo Grove section 15.20.145 which is to read
as follows:
15.20.145 - VARIANCE - GOLF COURSE LOTS
A. The Corporate Authorities, after a Public Hearing
is held and a recommendation is made by the Zoning
Board of Appeals, may determine and vary the applica-
tion of Section 15.20.055. if evidence presented
demonstrates that the plight of the owner is due to
unique circumstances and the proposed variation will
not alter the essential character of the neighborhood.

Section 3: Section 15.20.110 of the Municipal Code of the
Village of Buffalo Grove is hereby amended to read as follows:
15.20.110 - Variance - Authority to grant. The Zoning
Board of Appeals may vary and make exceptions to this
chapter (except section 15.20.055) where there is
sufficient evidence that the presence or absence of a
particular type of fence or screening would not be
detrimental to the public health, safety and welfare.
Application for such variations shall first be
submitted in writing to the zoning board of appeals.
Section 4: This ordinance shall be effective from and after
its passage, approval and publication.
