AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE APPEARANCE PLAN
OF THE VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE
WHEREAS, the Village of Buffalo Grove is a Home Rule Unit by virtue of
the provisions of the Constitution of the State of Illinois of 1970.
WHEREAS, the Corporate Authorities have determined this ordinance to be
in the best interest of the public health, safety and welfare of its citizens
and that Corporate Authorities have also determined that the Village of
Buffalo Grove should be beautiful as well as healthy, spacious, clean and
well balanced.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE
OF BUFFALO GROVE, COOK AND LAKE COUNTIES, ILLINOIS:
SECTION 1. Section III, CRITERIA FOR APPEARANCE of Exhibit A to
Ordinance No. 73 -54, as amended, is hereby further amended as follows:
A. Subsection B., RELATIONSHIP OF SITE TO ADJOINING AREA,
item 1, is hereby amended to read as follows:
1. Adjacent buildings of different architectural
styles shall be made compatible by such means
as screens, site breaks, and materials. In
addition to architectural treatments, adjacent
homes may not have the same base color treatment
unless that color is white.
B. Subsection D, BUILDING DESIGN, item 9 is hereby amended
to read as follows:
9. Monotony of design in single or multiple building
projects shall be avoided. Variation of detail,
form, and siting shall be used to provide visual
interest. In multiple building projects, variable
siting or individual buildings may be used to
prevent a monotonous appearance. Following is
the Monotony Code for the spacing of single - family
homes:
(a) IDENTICAL MODELS WITH IDENTICAL FRONT ELEVATIONS.
Identical models with identical front elevations
may be erected no more often than every third
lot along the same frontage; i.e., two dis-
similar models must be erected between each
identical model with identical front elevations.
Identical models, regardless of elevations,
shall not be constructed directly across the
street or other right -of -way from the front

(b) IDENTICAL MODELS WITH SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT
FRONT ELEVATIONS.
Identical models with significantly different
front elevations may be erected on every second
lot; i.e., a completely different model must
be erected between identical models with different
elevations. Identical models, regardless of
elevations, shall not be constructed directly
across the street or other right -of -way from
the front of that model.
SECTION 2. Section VII, DEFINITIONS of Exhibit A to Ordinance No. 73 -54,
as amended is hereby further amended by adding thereto the following:
IDENTICAL - means the same or indistinguishable.
The changing, rearranging or altering of an
elevation in minor facets shall not make an
elevation or model dissimilar or not identical.
SECTION 3. Any person violating the provisions of the Ordinance shall
be punished according to the provisions of Chapter 1.08 GENERAL PENALTY,
of the Buffalo Grove Municipal Code.
SECTION 4. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage, approval and publication, according to law.
