AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 75 -27
BEING AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE CON-
TROL and CARE OF ANIMALS, DEALERS IN PETS
AND VETERINARY HOSPITALS
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF
TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE, COOK AND LAKE COUNTIES,
ILLINOIS:
SECTION 1. Impounding Animals
Section 4 of Ordinance No. 75 -27 is hereby repealed in its
entirety and the following Section 4 enacted in lieu thereof:
SECTION 4. Impounding Animals
The enforcement officers of the Village shall impound dogs,
any vicious animal running at large, and any animal maintained in
violation of this ordinance.
SECTION 2. Animal Bites
Section 11 or Ordinance No. 75 -27 is hereby repealed in its
entirety and the following Section 11 enacted in lieu thereof:
SECTION 11. Animal Bites
If an animal has bitten a person, the Police Department shall_
notify the owner of the animal of the steps that must be taken under
the Rabies /Animal Control Ordinance of the County in which the bite
took place, and of any other applicable statute. If the owner is not
known, the police officer or Animal Control Officer shall take such
animal as soon as practicable to a licensed veterinarian or the
proper animal shelter of the county in which the bite took place for
observation and /or confinement as required by applicable County
Ordinances.
SECTION 3. Unlawful to Run at Large
Section 18 B. of Ordinance No. 75 -27 is hereby repealed in
its entirety and the following Section 18 B. is enacted in lieu
thereof:

B. It shall be unlawful for any vicious animal to run at
large in the Village.

SECTION 4. Vicious Animals
Section 26 A. of Ordinance No. 75 -27 is hereby repealed in
its entirety and the following Section 26 A. is enacted in lieu
thereof:
SECTION 26. Vicious Animals
A. No owner shall permit any vicious animal to be on any
street, alley or other public place within the Village or upon
the private premises of any person other than the owner of such
animal, unless such animal is securely muzzled or caged. Vicious
animals on the premises of the owner shall be restrained so that
they cannot attack persons lawfully on the premises and the premises
shall be maintained so that children cannot gain access thereto. Any
animal adjudged by the Police Officer or Animal Control Officer at
the scene to be in violation of this section shall be impounded.
SECTION 5. Severability
If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this
Ordinance or its application to any person or circumstance is held
invalid by the decision of any Court of Competent Jurisdiction, the
remainder of this ordinance, or the application of the provision to
other persons of circumstances is in effect and shall remain in full
force and effect.
SECTION 6. Penalty
Any person, firm, corporation or entity violating any of the
provisions or failing to comply with any of the requirements of this
Ordinance is guilty of a misdeameanor. Any person convicted of a mis-
demeanor under the ordinances of the Village shall be punished by a
fine not to exceed $500.00. Each such person is guilty of a separate
offense for each and every day during any portion of which any vio-
lation of any provision of this Ordinance is committed, continued,
or permitted by any such person, and he is punishable accordingly.
SECTION 7. Effective Date and Publication
This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after
its passage, approval and publication according to law. This ordinance
may be published in pamphlet form.
