1958-006 DOG ORDINANCE 05-01-1958' 4b S S ORDINANCE NO. 0 -58 -6 AN ORDINANCE CONCERNING DOGS 4 Y BE IT ORDAINED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Buffalo Groves Illinois that: Section 1. (License) Every person who harbors or keeps a dog of over the age of three months in the Village shall pay an annual tax on such dog of $2.50 per year, which tax shall be paid in advance on or before the thirtieth (30th) day of April of each year; provided, however, that for the year 1958 -1959, the tax shall be due on or before the first (1st) day of June, 1958. The Clerk shall keep a record of all dog taxes paid and shall furnish to each person paying such tax a metal tag having stamped thereon numbers indicating the year for which the taxis paid. A duplicate to replace a lost or destroyed tag may be issued by the Clerk upon the payment of fifty cents. The tax required by this ordinance shall be paid to the Clerk and shall be by her turned over to the Treasurer. Section 2. (Inoculation) It shall be unlawful for the Clerk to issue a license for any dog unless the person requesting such license shall furnish strict proof to the Clerk that the dog has been inoculated against rabies by a licensed veterinarian within the preceding year. Section 3. ( Tags) It shall be unlawful to permit any dog to be on any public street, sidewalks alley or other public place unless such dog has a collar firmly attached around his neck with a license tag for the current year attached to such collar. It shall be unlawful to permit any dog to be on any public streets sidewalk, alley or other public place unless such dog has a tag attached to his collar shoving his inoculation against rabies. Section 4. (Running at large) It shall be unlawful to permit any dog to run at large within the Village limits. Any dog found upon any public street? sidewalks alley9 parkway, or any unenclosed place shall be deemed running at large unless such dog is firmly held on a leash; is in an enclosed vehicle; or is accompanied by and under the control of his owner or the person having custody of the dog. Section 5. (Dog Bites) It shall be the duty of the owner or person having custody of any dog which bites any human being to keep'. such dog locked up in an enclosure for a period of two weeks following the time the dog has bitten a person; and to have the dog examined by a physician or licensed veterinarian at the commencement and termina- tion of this two week period. If such dog during this period shall die or shall show definite signs of illness, it shall be the duty of such owner or person having custody of the dog to turn the dog over to the Chief of Police or such person as may be designated by the Village President, so that it can be determined whether or not the dog had rabies. Section 6. (Impounding) Any dog found upon any public street or highway running at large, or any dog for which the annual tax has not been paid as hereinabove provided, shall be impounded by the Chief of Police or such person as may be designated by the Village President. If such dog shall not have been redeemed within five days after being impounded, it shall be disposed of in the manner prescribed by the Board of Trustees,. Any dog so impounded may be taken to any dog pound or shelter at the discretion of the Chief of Police or such person as may be designated by the Village President, or may be kept in an enclosure within the Village limits. Any dog impounded may be of a fee of twenty—five cents impounded, plus a release fee the same is unpaid. Such fee it shall be the obligation of pound or shelter to which the redeemed by the owner upon payment a day for each day the dog has been of One Dollar and the current tax, if s shall be paid.to the Clerk. In addition, the owner to pay the fee of any dog dog may have been taken. Section 7. (Definition) The term "dog" as used in this ordinance includes any canine three months or more of age. Section S. (Penalty) Any persons firm or corporation violating this ordinance shall be fined not less than One Dollar nor more than Fifty Dollars for each off enset and a separate offense shall be deemed committed on each day during or on which a violation occurs or continues. Section 9. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval and publication as required by law. PASS30 this lst day of May, 1958.
